"LIVE FROM" a future Grand Slam Final

We want to welcome you to this great Grand Slam Final LIVE. It is being brought direct to you from the Colosseum in Rome so there are spectacular photo opportunities but it is also a fitting venue as slaves have fought for their lives here many times.

Carlos the inconsistent wishes you to forget that in the not too distant past he went on record to claim "Dancesport is not entertainment". That was Mondays policy and today it is Fridays Policy. Carlos wants you to know this is surely sport. It was the opinion that "We have elevated Dance to SPORT status and changed everything to make it entertainment for the media."

We were privileged to be taken with the judges in their new compulsory uniforms (looking like an out of place song troupe) as they were ushered into a back room and given their orders. "We want no Non progressive judges here. THIS IS SPORT - Forget the characteristics of the dance, forget musicality and emotion, forget a man woman connection, forget technique (huge sighs of relief from some judges) we want none of those outdated ideas here, remember this is SPORT and you must be Progressive".

Then,to comply with the demands of the Italian Olympic Committee CONI the next words came "You cannot judge any couple you have ever taught or with whom there is connection". The situation was saved when the judges (fingers tightly crossed behind their back) swore they have never given any one of the competitors a single lesson, nor been associated with a certain Italian "Team" .

Now ladies and Gentlemen we come to the most exciting part of the evening. The competition is about to begin on this Sport tournament. The audience are baying for blood this is sport (soon to be in a Bullring) and a boxing tournament has not excited the audience more.

The athletes are lined up behind the starting line for the first event. The strange thing is the man and woman stand far apart twitching like they have some form of illness. Is this sport?. There goes the starers pistol and they are are off. in the first Waltzsport discipline No.10 goes into an immediate lead so many spins, knocking over 3 other in the process whilst remaining on your feet is impressive. This is progressive. They must score highly with the judges. Yes No 10 has won the waltzsport. and even more spectacular they never once performed the old fashioned practice of closing the feet. Thats progress.

Now comes Tangosport and off they go. The men high on their toes forget the music and the technique here the aim is cover the floor. Impressive the number of times the ladies twist their leg round their partners and give the impression of wrestling holds. Could this explain why the ladies seem so tired they need to have a quick sleep on their partners shoulder?

Foxtrotsport next. Any couple able to show the greatest number of quicks and quick and quick is going to score highly. That old fashioned Slow Foxtrot does not belong in Sport, Extra points for the man who most adopts the silhouette of a banana and can keep his shoulders behind his heels and project his body around his partner and beyond her hips.

Now we come to the Viennese Waltzsport and forget what those silly people danced in Vienna to Johan Strauss and others. This is sport. The man who can best demonstrate the Boxing Upper Cut motion with the left arm is going to score highly as are those who can travel the greatest distances in the fleckerel. No. 10 are again showing they know all about Sport. They must win.

The final discipline Quickstepsport. The hurdles have been brought out onto the floor. The audience are in a frenzy which couple will be first to complete 4 lengths of the arena with clearance over the hurdles. Well No 10 again shows the others when it comes to strength and speed they have no rivals and the height they achieve over every hurdle is fantastic. In this discipline it is very important you remain in your own lane and do not impede your rivals and No 15 has been disqualified for putting one foot in the lane of No. 37.

We can now see just how silly was that old fashioned idea there should be body contact. This level of performance could never be achieved if we observed such nonsense. This is SPORT.

Well done No.10 what a wonderful demonstration of the progress made now we have SPORT. You may not be the best dancers but you know your athletics. You won easily and never once had to resort to showing the musicality, the expression, the characterisation, the technique, the emotion of the dance. That is Progress now we can proudly claim we are a SPORT.
